What else we did in Colorado

We stayed very busy in Colorado. Finding lots to se and do.Here we are in front of Long's Peak.

This is us the first time we took James to Colorado. He's changed a little.

Searching for deer and the snow.
Diggin the dirt, even in the Colorado.

Fixed things with our tools.

Spent time with family.

James had lots of fun in the dirt. If you look closely you can see a handprint of dirt across his face.

We went for many walks. This is at Lily Lake between Estes and Allenspark. James started looking for deer tracks as we walked. He was successful once he started to recognize. Now we look for footprints in our dirt at home.

Just having fun.

Time at the Alluvial Fan.

Climbed rocks.

The snow at Bear Lake.

The trip wasn't complete without some ice cream. James really enjoyed this. We let him pick his own flavor for the first time. He chose birthday cake. It had cake batter, frosting, and sprinkles in it.

We also found a park. Another big thrill.

It was a fun trip. It's funny to ask James now what we saw and did. His says we saw chipmunks and snow. It's fun to see what's important to him.

Never Before Seen

We had a nice little getaway for a few days to Colorado. It was fun to relax and walk around some. On this trip we saw some things that none of us had ever seen before, which made it quite exciting.

There is still lots of snow on top of the mountains. As it is getting warmer it is causing the streams to be extremely full and the water to be rushing past. This is Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. Jonathan and I have been up there plenty of times, and thought it would be a good place to go because it is a flat and easy hike around the lake. We were quite surprised when we walked up to the trailhead to see 3 feet of snow packed over all the trails and then on the lake. Part of the trail did clear off, but most of it was covered with deep snow.
James wanted to shovel the snow off the mountain with his backhoe.

On our drive to the Alluvial Fan and then Bear Lake we saw Big Horn Sheep. None of us had ever seen them before so it was quite exciting. They were quite large, and had large elk around too. We heard that it is very unusual for the elk and sheep to mingle.

The last thing we saw was a black bear 50 yards from our cabin in Allenspark (near Estes). Jonathan is always looking for a bear, and this year he saw one. He just happened to be sitting in the right chair at the right time to see it go by the mountain and up the hill. He jumped out of his chair very quickly to grab James to show him, and we all ran to the windows. It was a BIG bear. I'm very glad that we were inside when it walked by, especially James. It just made us wonder how often that can happen, because it came so quietly, yet moved slow and quickly up the mountain.

It was a good trip, and I will post some more pictures soon of some other things that we did!

It finally happened

With the baby coming, we decided it was time to get some new furniture. We started thinking this because James was going to need something so that his furniture could move into the baby's room. So we found a set for him with a dresser, nightstand, and headboard. We haven't put the headboard on yet so that he can still get in and out of bed easily without rails.

This is his dresser. The nightstand is the same, just smaller.

With our families being closer and our family growing we decided it was time for a new table. (Our other one didn't fair too well in storage either.) This table pulls apart into a square and will seat 8. It will be nice not to squeeze so much when others are over.

We also figured it was time for us to have some furniture that was new, and not all hand me downs. So we got ourselves nightstands, dresser, and a bed.

It's been exciting purchasing new furniture, and having our house really come together. Next, I think it's time to put up the valanaces and hang some pictures on the walls.

Look at me Go!

James has been busy learning to ride his tricycle. He's been working really hard at it. He's finally gotten the hang of it, and his legs are long enough that he can reach the pedals. He still needs to master steering. He tends to look around and forgets to watch where he is going. Either way he is enjoying his new ride!
